PRINCE, is a 14 year old Belgian draft that joined the herd in the summer of 2017.

Old South Carriage Company provides daily carriage tours, day and night, throughout the streets of Historic Charleston, lead by a member of our herd. Our visitors regularly request photos with their tour horse, and post and share favorable comments.

“At Old South Carriage Company we value, appreciate and celebrate the talent of our equine partners as they guide the carriages throughout the streets of Historic Charleston, ” said John Mulhern, General Manager. The winning horse receives a special SPA Treatment by Shawn Thewlis which consists of a one-hour horse massage while at Sugar Cain, Old South’s Carriage Company farm on Johns Island, SC. Plus, a horse treat “Uncle Jimmy’s Licky Thing”, the best stall at the Anson Street Barn with the “Equine Employee of the Month” stall door magnet designating their award.

Shawn Thewlis performs her SPA treatment for the horses. She gives them a full body massage – using her hands, beginning at the nose and going over the entire body of the horse, using a gentle approach massaging the horses’ muscles. This type of SPA care for the horse, provides a relaxing outcome and contributes to the good health of the equine.

About Old South Carriage Company:

Old South Carriage Company takes pride in the care and grooming of our horses. We provide daily for the stable of our horses, often lovingly referred to as our “herd”. Our “herd” consisting of 27 horses live out at Sugah Cain, our farm on Johns Island, and travel into Charleston to work, guiding our carriages. Each horse averages 4 work days a week, and are groomed daily.

Shawn attended the Northeast Indiana Equine Sports Medicine Massage and Rehab School, and practicing here in the lowcountry. Shawn performs her Spa treatment, a full body massage – using her hands, beginning at the nose and going over the entire body of the horse, using a gentle approach massaging the horses’ muscles. This type of SPA care for the horse, provides a relaxing outcome and contributes to the good health of the equine.
