Welcome to Charleston, the pleasure is all ours! We’ve been family owned and operated since 1983 when founder David Compton started touring guests with just three horses and a single carriage. Now, nearly 40 years later, we’ve given carriage tours in Charleston, SC to thousands of guests from all over the world.
We pride ourselves on delivering an authentic, Old South experience that our guests enjoy every time they visit. The memorable, horse-drawn carriage experience has been improved over the decades, however, with state-of-the-art carriages that are built for comfort. They seat 16 passengers at a time and feature carbon-fiber composite material as well as padded leather seats and backrests.
Old South Carriage Company also cares for and maintains a herd of more than 30 horses. With Belgian and Percheron breeds from Amish working farms, each of our amazing horses lives at a peaceful, 65-acre farm and pasture that we sometimes refer to as “horse heaven.”
Our team has grown as well and we now have a large staff of passionate, hard-working people—including our Palmetto Guild certified guides—that help make us the premiere carriage tour in Charleston.
