Charleston isn’t just a place you visit; it’s a vibe you feel in the salt air and hear in the rhythm of horse hooves on cobblestones. To help you navigate our winding streets like a local, we’ve put together the perfect one-day itinerary.
Quick View: The "Perfect Day in Charleston" Itinerary
- Evening: A Lowcountry feast & a spine-tingling Haunted Carriage Ride.
- Morning: Breakfast at a local cafe & an Old South Carriage Tour.
- Midday: Historic City Market & a stroll through the French Quarter.

Before You Arrive: The Logistics
- Pro Tip: Charleston weather is famous for its "sunshine showers." Our carriages are covered, but we always recommend a light layer or a $5 poncho from our gift shop just in case!
- Parking: We recommend the Cumberland Street Garage or the Gaillard Center Garage. Both are centrally located and just a short walk from our stable at 14 Anson Street.
- Getting Around: Charleston is incredibly walkable, but if your feet get tired, look for the DASH Trolley. It’s free and runs through the historic district.
- Make the most of your trip by doing some sightseeing at a few of these top Charleston locations. Don’t forget to have your camera charged and ready to capture lasting memories of these gorgeous sights.
Charleston Full-Day Itinerary
9:00 AM | Start with the Best View in Town
There is no better way to get your bearings than from the seat of a horse-drawn carriage. Head over to our stable at 14 Anson Street (one block from the City Market).
Our Historic Charleston Carriage Tour takes you through 30 blocks of history. You’ll see grand antebellum mansions and lush hidden gardens while our Palmetto Guild-certified guides share stories you won't find in a generic guidebook.
- Why start here? It gives you a great overview of the city’s layout and history, helping you decide which spots you want to walk back to later!
- Save $5: Use code EARLYBIRD for our 9:00 AM tours.

10:30 AM | The Charleston City Market
Just steps from our stable is the Historic City Market. Stretching four city blocks, this is the place to find authentic Sweetgrass Baskets, which are a 300-year-old Gullah tradition. Watch the weavers work on a piece of living history that you can take home with you.
12:00 PM | A Lowcountry Lunch
After working up an appetite, enjoy a true taste of the South at Poogan’s Porch. Their famous she-crab soup or shrimp and grits is a must in the Victorian home turned beloved restaurant. If you want something quick and casual, 167 Raw offers the best lobster rolls south of Maine.
1:30 PM | The French Quarter & Rainbow Row
Walk off lunch by heading south toward the French Quarter. Stop by the Dock Street Theatre (America's first theater) and the Pink House on Chalmers Street.
Follow the pinks and blues down to Rainbow Row on East Bay Street. This iconic row of 13 pastel-colored historic houses is the most photographed spot in the city, so make sure your phone is charged.
3:00 PM | The Battery & The Pineapple Fountain
Continue your walk to White Point Garden at the tip of the peninsula known as The Battery. Here you can see Fort Sumter in the distance across the harbor. On your way back north, stroll through Waterfront Park to see the Pineapple Fountain, which is Charleston’s symbol of hospitality.

6:00 PM | Dinner in the Culinary Capital
Charleston is a foodie’s paradise. For a high-end experience, try to snag a reservation at Husk or FIG. If you’re looking for something more laid back, Leon’s Oyster Shop serves up world-class fried chicken and oysters in a converted old garage.

8:00 PM | A Chilling End to the Day
If you have time for one more stop, the Nathaniel Russell House is worth a visit. This meticulously restored 19th-century home is now a fascinating museum of Charleston's antebellum period. Take a look into Charleton’s opulent past and learn about the consideration and craftsmanship that have gone into maintaining the house.

- Look Up: Much of Charleston’s beauty is in the architectural details: the iron gates, the gas lanterns, and the "haint blue" porch ceilings.
- Stay Hydrated: The humidity is real. Grab a sweet tea (half-sweet, half-unsweet like a local) and take breaks in the shade.
