Old South Carriage Participates in Blessing of the Animals

November 6, 2017
On November 5, 2017, Old South Carriage participated in the French Protestant Huguenot Church for the Blessing of the Animals in Charleston, South Carolina. "God made the wild animals of the earth of every kind, and the cattle of every kind...And God saw that it was good. – Genesis 1:25"
The French Protestant (Huguenot) Church located at the corner of Church and Queen and know locally as  “The Huguenot Church”. Old South representatives in attendance were Jenny Ball, John Bryan, John Ragsdale and John Mulherin. The Celebrants were Reverend Phillip C. Bryant and Reverend Thomas Guerry, with Tray Stephenson as the Organist.
The service consisted of an introductory Prelude and Collect, two brief Bible readings, an 8 lesson Litany of gratitude with pronouncement and response, a hymn and then procession of all animals to the front for their blessing. Animals were held, petted, acknowledged as God’s creatures and given a St Francis medallion. Each animal received very loving care and acknowledgment. Both Reverends processed out of the Church, down the steps and greeted Max. He was given the same blessing and medal that those in the church were given. He was also given a bag of carrots by a neighbor lady who noticed him.
The Old Testament Lesson Genesis 1:1-2 20-25 reads:

And God said, “ Let the waters teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky,” So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the waters teems and that moves about within it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind.  And God saw that it was good. 24 And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground and the wild animals, each according to its kind”. And it was so.
All of God's creatures are united in peace, may God Bless all of the horses at Old South Carriage!
